Bohemian Paradise Founded 1380-1390 Gothic Castle
Trosky Castle is a unique late Gothic castle built between 1380 and 1390 on a rocky formation of volcanic origin. Its unmistakable landmark consists of two towers - the taller Panna (Maiden) (57 m) and the shorter Baba (Old Woman) (47 m) - built on top of basalt rocks.

Trosky Castle rose on a pair of basalt volcanic plugs in the late 14th century, when Čeněk of Wartenberg took advantage of the natural impregnability of the rocks. Shortly thereafter, the fortress fell to King Wenceslas IV, who entrusted it to the powerful lords of Bergow. During the Hussite Wars, they turned Trosky into an important stronghold of the Catholic camp. Despite sieges in 1424 and 1428, the castle held out, but the succession of owners in later centuries brought gradual decline. From the Aehrenthals, who in the 19th century strove for romantic restoration and tourism development in Bohemian Paradise, Trosky passed to state administration in 1925 and became a symbol of the region and a national cultural monument.
Beneath the monumental towers lies an intricate network of crevices and caves, which according to legend was dug by Čeněk of Wartenberg as a secret supply route. Explorers of the 18th and 19th centuries describe vast halls, a signature rock, and warning inscriptions, such as the terrifying "3 days we wandered, your death if you go further". According to traditional stories, the robber knights Šof and Švejkar or Ota of Bergow hid treasures here that still await discovery.
3DCesko connects the historical story of Trosky with modern technology. The photorealistic model shows you the current and historical appearance of the castle, while interactive layers add context to individual parts of the complex. Thanks to the mobile app, you can download the complete presentation before your trip and enjoy it even without signal directly on site.
Recent years have brought significant changes to Trosky. A new steel walkway on Baba, completed in May 2024, follows extensive drainage and laying of basalt paving. Repairs to the castle walls are ongoing and require careful work in challenging terrain, while greenery maintenance includes arboricultural interventions on ropes. The 3D model documents these interventions and offers the opportunity to compare the state before and after reconstructions.
